Ambiance and atmosphere and presentation is what you pay for. Everything was tasty but not knock your socks off braggadocio. We enjoyed the ceviche and lamb chops. I was in the middle of an interesting conversation when one of the staff kept interrupting and asking if I was done with my plate. That kinda killed it. I still tipped 30 clams tho.
We visited to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and what stood out most was the atmosphere and service. The staff were very friendly and attentive—not just our server, but everyone we encountered. The restaurant had a spacious, relaxed vibe with dim lighting, just the right level of background noise, and well-spaced tables. We brought our own birthday cake, and they kindly took care of it while we dined, bringing it out at just the right moment without charging a cakage fee—a delightful surprise :) The food was also enjoyable. We ordered two rolls, four pieces of nigiri, and an item from their recommendation menu. Everything was tasty, though the rice and the sauce on the rolls was a bit sweet for our preference, but not to the point of complaint.
We’ve been coming to Sasa for years. It’s changed management a few times. It’s been maybe 18 months since we’ve been, so it was nice to see that they were busy. The food was all great. Service was a little slow at first. But we were seated right around 6 pm Sat, and it was pretty full - even at the bar and outside. Once we ordered, drinks and food were fairly quick to come out at a good pace. It’s izakaya - small sharing plates.
First time eating here. Food was decent but excessively salty, and tasted the same as other places that charge $10 less per item. All fusion/creative takes on Japanese food, but not authentic at all. Looks like a higher end place, but diners had noisy kids present to ruin any attempt at ambience. Horrible service - sat with an empty water cup in front of me all night. At least they made sure to clear dishes constantly.
Sasa is one of our absolute favorite spots in Walnut Creek! The food and service consistently go above and beyond. Their sushi and sashimi are among the best you can find in the area always fresh and perfectly prepared. We’re also huge fans of their Duck Buns and Lamb Chops, both of which are incredibly flavorful and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend it!
